Last name origins & meanings:

  1. Irish: of uncertain origin. It may be an altered form of de la Hyde (see Hyde), which was a prominent family name in Leinster from medieval times onward.
  2. Francis Dollahide, born about 1650–60 in County Dublin, Ireland, was the ancestor of Americans with the surname Dollahide, Dollahite, and Dollarhide. In 1680 he was transported to MD for some youthful misdemeanor. He appears to have been an educated man and rose to be an important landowner and politician, serving in the Lower House of the MD legislature as an elected representative for Baltimore County from about 1705 to 1721.
