Family name origins & meanings
- Japanese (mostly found in the island of Kyūshū and the Ryūkyū Islands) : ‘pine tree bay’. It was originally taken from ancient Matsura province, in what is now Nagasaki prefecture, and is listed in the Shinsen shōjiroku. The alternate pronunciation Matsura is also found.
