  • Scottish : probably a variant of MacBrayne, an Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac an Bhreitheamhan ‘son of the judge’, from breitheamh ‘judge’ (see Brain). In Ireland the same name was Anglicized as (Mc)Abraham.
