Family name origins & meanings

  • Japanese (Ōsaki) : ‘great cape’; a name found mostly in eastern Japan. An older family is listed in the Shinsen shōjiroku, and an apparently later family, descended from the Minamoto clan, took the name from their residence in Shimōsa (now part of Chiba prefecture).
