  • South German (Austrian) : nickname for a short, stocky person, from Middle High German busch, Bavarian and Austrian bosch ‘shrubbery’. In Tyrol Posch denotes a flowering shrub and appears on house signs.
  • Eastern German, of Slavic origin (also Pösch) : from a short form of Peter or any of various other personal names beginning with P-.
