Last name origin & meaning:
Italian, Portuguese (Sérgio), and Spanish: from the
personal name, from Latin Sergius (originally a family name, of
uncertain, possibly Etruscan, origin). This was borne by a 4th-century
Christian saint martyred in Cappadocia under Diocletian. The personal
name was hereditary in the ducal houses of Amalfi and Naples between
the 11th and 13th centuries.
