  • Polish, Belorussian and Jewish (eastern Ashkenazic) : from the nickname Tur meaning ‘aurochs’, ultimately cognate with Latin taurus ‘bull’ (see Toro). The Jewish surname is generally ornamental in origin.
  • Jewish (eastern Ashkenazic) : habitational name from Tury in Belarus.
