Spring and Autumn period (722–481 bc), some members of the
state of Song adopted Zhongli as their surname, as they considered it
to be the place which their ancestors came from. Some descendants
later shortened the name to Zhong, while others kept Zhongli. - Chinese:
the origin of this name has been attributed
to three different people. One is Zhong Kan, a scholar under the
legendary emperor Ku, who lived 4500 years ago. Another is Zhong Sun,
who lived in the state of Qi during the Spring and Autumn period
(722–481 bc). A third is Zhong Ji, who lived during the
Song dynasty (960–1279 ad).
